9ct Amethyst in a lovely retro buttercup setting with beaded detailing on the shoulders for added interest.
The stone is a lovely dark Amethyst in great condition and a decent size approximately 10mm x 7mm.
This ring is a size S or 9 US which has been resized to this larger size. It has been sized by a skilled jeweler who has managed to retain the original hallmarks.
Hallmarked including makers mark W&G, 9 375 for 9ct gold and the leopards head to show it was hallmarked in London. The letter S shows it was assayed in 1973 which is consistent with its unique buttercup setting, typical for the era, which coincidentally gained popularity in the Victorian era which dates back to 1837.
The amethyst is the birthstone for February and is commonly associated with royalty thanks to its purple coloring, amethysts have been used to symbolize deep love, happiness, humility, sincerity, and wealth for centuries.
