Keeper ring
Keeper ring originated in the 18th century as a practical way of keeping the wearers ring safe on their finger. King George gifted one to Queen Charlotte in 1761 to protect her diamond ring, specifically described as a guard for her wedding ring. They were initially simple bands worn in front of a larger, more expensive ring to prevent it from slipping off, but they evolved in the Victorian era to become more ornate, sometimes worn alone as a token of friendship or love. Today, they are often called guard rings and are still used to protect other rings, or are worn as fashion statements and unique wedding bands.

Some keeper rings, like the braided and knotted styles, began to be worn alone as a representation of everlasting love and connection.

Today, keeper rings are now used for a range of purposes, simply stacking, wearing as a promise ring or traditionally to keep larger, more valuable rings safe.

This one is particularly nice with a wide fine braided and knotted design.
